The Laker for a Day is a series produced by DLP for UCLA and The Lakers during the ‘19-’20 NBA season. Each episode would spotlight a chosen patient at a game, giving them an opportunity to share their story and become an honorary “Laker for a Day”. This series shows DLP’s ability to do high-production value shoots and compelling sit-down interviews.

In April of 2021, BetterTogether.Health’s chairwoman, Rhoda Weiss, interviewed UCLA’s President, Johnese Spisso, to catch up on all things UCLA Health. This example shows how having a host can help guide the direction of the interview and smooth its storyline. It was a simple 2-person interview, but still maintained a high level of production with a nice set and 3x cameras. This will be mirrored in the new series.

Throughout 2019, DLP hosted a studio show every Tuesday with the E-sports team, Cloud 9. The Nines was a recurring show that had hosts and a variety of talent to discuss the topical stories of the week from the E-sports world. DLP has extensive experience producing studio shows, evolving them from a mere concept all the way to on-air execution. Though the UCLA x YouTube series will not be live, a studio show such as The Nines is a sufficient point of reference for a series that is episodic yet cohesive throughout the entirety of a season.
